Eastry six-a-side – Teams needed

It’s the Eastry six-a-side tournament on the 27th July, if you are interested in entering a team contact either Hazel (secretary@eastrycricketclub.com) or Roger (treasurer@eastrycricketclub.com).

Back to winning ways

Sadly the saturday team had their game rained off against Woodcutters after just 23 overs.
The sunday team however had a great game against Goodnestone (scorecard) and were back to winning ways after their defeat last week to St Margarets (scorecard)

Eastry won the toss and captain Harry elected to bowl hoping the pitch would dry out after the down pour the previous day. Goodnestone got off to a cautious start with some tight bowling from Hill and Smit which continued when Eastry’s latest spin acquisition of Thomson was unleashed. Patfield soon picked up the pace despatching the vulnerable spin option of G Friend to various parts of the ground. Eastry were able to stump Goodnestones’ progress with the combination of pace from A Friend (yes I said pace) attacking the crease and spin of P Eastman picking up key wickets backed by some uncharacteristically skilful fielding.

After a delicious caked filled tea, Eastry’s reply got off to a good start with some confident shots from the opening partnership of A Friend and W Kenton. Eastry progressed well to 100 off 23 overs with only 2 wickets down but nothing is that easy with Eastry and they soon found themselves six down causing tremors in the pavilion for the awaiting batsman. Eastry clawed their way to within one but Goodnestone dug deep to keep the pressure on, bowling 3 maidens in a row but in the end Eastry were able to scamper through to claim victory.
