Double Wicket Competition

Dear All

In celebration of the life of Andy Pearce, the ECC will be holding a double wicket competition on Saturday 3 September 2011 starting at 12.00.

Both past and present players are welcome to join in. The pairings will be drawn on the day from a hat of old ones and young ones, so please be there prompt. Exact details of the competition are yet to be sorted as it will depend upon how many are interested in playing, so please let me know as soon as possible if your wish to participate.

There will be a BBQ going all day, but please bring along your own food along to cook. There will also be a cakes and tea later in the day.

Lets make this a family day and celebrate the life of a true ECC stalwart

Looking forward to hearing from your soon

James

Winning Weekend

Well done to Saturday & Sunday sides for having a very well deserved weekend of wins.

Saturday’s victory over Herne (apologies for not giving you a full report – I only saw the last couple of overs but we chased down a total of 140 set by Herne with plenty to spare) set the precedent for the Sunday side to try and beat and beat it they did!

Winning the toss Eastry decided to have a bat. Opening up for Eastry were the “tired & emotional” skipper Aaron Friend and Harry Kenton, who survived a bit of a wobble early on (dropped catches and close LBW appeals) and then went on to an opening partnership of 98 before Aero fell on 61. Chris Adam-Reynolds, in at 3, built up a splendid partnership of 85 with Harry. Harry was out caught for 86(ish – there was a moment of mad calculation that suddenly accelerated H to 100 before a sensible recount brought him back down to 86 again…or was it 89…? Even Harry the accountant needed a calculator to do the sums!). The Hyphenated one was out LBW on 49 and mutterings of “that was never LBW you know…” were to be heard long into the evening! A handy 33 from 17 balls from James Kenton and runs added by Michael Wells and Matt Sumner helped Eastry to a total of 258 for 4 from 40 overs.

At tea, there were some lovely egg sandwiches (a must in my book!) pizza and some super lemon cake! 🙂

And then Eastry took to the field and as a unit they have rarely looked so good.

Roger Hill and Ian Merrick opened the bowling and took a wicket apiece from their spells with a very fine catch from Matt Sumners that rocketed towards the heavens and dropped out of the sun into his hands. But it was Robin Smit and Michael Green (who replaced Roger & Ian) that combined as a bowling partnership which saw Walmer make only 22 runs from 16 overs with the loss of 5 wickets. Robin with figures of 8.3.14.2 and Michael 8.4.8.3. Kyle Glen and Harry Kenton replaced the formidable Smit-Green duo and Kyle took the remaining 3 wickets from 5.2 overs for only 28 runs.

Result, Walmer all out for 111 and Eastry win by 147 runs.

A fine display of cricket all round, top batting backed up by tight bowling. Well done the Lions!
