Margate vs Eastry Sunday 28-04-2013

After electing to bat first, Margate struggled to impose themselves in a quiet first 10 overs. Gareth Friend and Roger Hill restricting the home side.  However a flurry of runs from Perez and Kirk upped the run rate and capitalised on some wayward Eastry bowling and fielding. Brooks and Dewell closed the innings strongly with some big hits towards the end. Smalley, Eastman and the returning Friend helped limit the damage. Margate posted 211-7.

Eastry started poorly in reply losing two quick wickets before Spong and Friend began the rebuild. Friend went on to increase the run rate to 8-an-over with some lusty blows. Smit proved the mainstay of the innings, building a patient top score of 66. He was joined by Kenton, and together put on a partnership of 70. Eastman then calmly finished the innings with 5 overs to spare.

Eastry vs Canterbury Saturday 27-04-2013

Eastry won the toss and put Canterbury into bat on a fast drying track. Matt Deveson and Dave Waring took the new ball, with Deveson picking up two early wickets despite being erratic with his line and length. Canterbury struggled to adjust to the pace of the pitch and fell to a score of 79-7, with metronomic precision bowling from Andy Betts, and Mark Graves’ penetrating seam bowling picked up 3 wickets in his 6 overs. After a lower order rally from Minter and Apps, Canterbury finished on 145 all out which many believed was a very good score for the pitch.

In rapidly decreasing temperatures Eastry took their turn to bat and openers Aaron Friend and Kevin Deveson went about creating a solid platform to chase down Canterbury’s total. After three quick wickets Eastry were in a precarious position at 45-4, however a partnership of 46 from Gareth Friend and Matt Deveson steadied the ship at a score of 91-5. After a tense final 10 overs, in which Eastry required 4 an over, Matt Deveson managed to hit the winning runs with only 6 balls to spare, sealing a well deserved victory for Eastry and capping off a great contest.
